Petersfield II v Ryde II: PETERSFIELD’S second team hosted Ryde’s second team at the Heath.

After a few showers and a slightly damp pitch the game got under way, with skipper Chris Russell putting the opposition in to bat.

The Ryde openers started well, putting on 56 for the first wicket before David Pratt (40) fell to Rich Stephens (2-25). Nineteen runs later his opening partner Steve Lewis (22) was out to the same bowler.

Tom Roscoe (76) and Simon Berendt (52) then put on 105 for the third wicket before Roscoe was bowled by Russell (1-38) with a ball that kept very low.

Next to depart was Simon Wratten (15), stumped off Ed Bayliss (1-37) trying to push the score on.

Oscar Amis (2-23) then removed Berendt (52) and R Christensen (five) on his debut for the second team.

The last wicket came off the last ball with a run out as Ryde finished on 222.

The run chase started brightly for Petersfield, with Dave Squires (16) and Jake Hastie (38) going well, before Squires got a leading edge to a ball from Steve Lever and was caught at mid-wicket.

Five of Petersfield’s top seven did not make double figures and it was left to 14-year-old Amis (67 not out) to show his more senior team mates how to score runs. Amis waited for the bad balls and put them away with style.

Wickets fell at regular intervals, but Bayliss (three not out) scrambled a two off the last ball to glean another batting point with a dive from about five yards out.

Petersfield made 175-8 to lose by 47 runs.
