Old Tauntonians & Romsey v Liphook & Ripsley: LIPHOOK and Ripsley slipped to a three-wicket defeat at Old Tauntonians and Romsey in Division 1 of the Southern Premier Cricket League on Saturday afternoon.
Liphook did not get off to the best of starts as they lost the toss, Rob Nicklin was run out without facing a ball and mainstay Harry Munt fell for a duck with only three runs on the board.
The visitors never recovered, with wickets given away, other than Ryan Covey’s admirable 39 off 126 balls.
As soon as the opener departed, however, only Sean Burton’s late 22 registered any resistance, as the visitors slumped to 109 all out.
Peter Newman (3-13) and Jody Brown (3-8) each bagged three wickets, while Harry Tulk took five catches for the home side.
Slow scoring continued to be the order of the day as Liphook forced the determined home side to grind out their runs, and Sean Burton completed his 10 overs for just five runs.
Wickets fell steadily until it was left to skipper Jodi Brown with an undefeated 22 to see his relieved side through to victory in the 47th over at 110-7.
