Liss v Amport: LISS did not get their season off to an ideal start as they lost at home to Amport.
After winning the toss, Liss elected to bowl with Charles and Moore looking to put the visitors under pressure early on. Moore made two early breakthroughs, leaving Amport 17-2. The batting side dug in on what was a very tricky pitch and started to build a foundation.
Cowell came into the attack and picked up a wicket in his first over and at 43-3 Liss were in a positive mood.
Gillard and Glover then started to build a partnership. With a mixture of good shots and the bowlers not hitting their line and length, the score started to increase at a decent rate. The partnership went past 100 before Pleace junior had Glover caught for 31 and Dillon-Thistleton trapped Gillard leg before wicket for 88.
Liss had slowed down the run rate and Pleace junior and Dillon-Thistleton continued to bowl well. The returning Moore picked up his third and Liss kept Amport to 213.
The target was not a huge one but with the track still very up and down Liss had to concentrate. They made a good start with the openers going at nearly five an over before Pleace junior was dismissed by a wonder catch on the boundary for ten.
Kemp and Cowell continued the chase with some big shots and moved the score on to 67 before Kemp was bowled for 30. After Kemp’s dismissal no Liss batsman got themselves in and the wickets started to tumble.
The next eight wickets were taken for just 28 runs and Liss were all out for 95.
