The hosts won the toss and put Steep in on a tacky wicket and soon had the visitors on 10-2.
However, Smith and Bone dug in deep and rebuilt the innings with a 127-run partnership. This was ended when Bone was caught for 85.
Smith continued to battle on but with partners coming and going at regular intervals he was forced to hit out and was caught for a patient 43.
Steep collapsed from 137-2 to 175 all out and on a drying wicket this looked below par.
Steeple Langford’s innings started similarly to Steep’s with two early wickets. Yates and Atkins both picked up a wicket.
Like Steep the hosts dropped anchor and fought hard to rebuild.
Some tight and accurate bowling from Smith, Mercer and Coles began to build pressure on Steeple Langford and Bone was the recipient of this pressure when he got the breakthrough.
Wickets fell regularly with Bone picking up 5-34 from nine overs. Smith and Coles picked up a wicket each, and the final wicket fell with a run out as Steeple Langford were bowled out for 165.
