Hawkley v Grayswood: HAWKLEY skipper Ashley Fooks won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first.
Fooks’ decision was vindicated when Liam Lloyd bowled Cameron Kent, and thereafter Grayswood struggled for runs against an accurate Hawkley attack well supported by tight fielding.
After eight overs Grayswood were 18-4, with two wickets apiece for Lloyd and Nick Hudson.
A change of bowling brought no relief for the visitors as Ben Carter sliced James Pringle to point.
Thereafter the visitors rallied as batsmen James Perrin and Henry Hind dug in to rebuild the innings. Runs came slowly at first but the batsmen survived their early overs and began to accumulate runs, adding 54 before Hind fell to the bowling of Sam Cunningham.
Another partnership between Perrin and Henry Cronk saw 48 added and Grayswood finished on 141-7 off their 35 overs.
Hawkley’s reply got off to a rousing start as Ed Peel and Aaron Stewart took 16 runs off the first two overs, before Peel played around a straight ball from Dave Bowden and Stewart lofted Jeremy Surtees to mid-off.
Cunningham and Hallam Brown pushed the score on to 76 before Cunningham fell for 29. Fooks then joined Brown in a half-century stand, although Brown fell to a catch on the boundary with his score on 39.
Hawkley were now in easy reach of their target and cruised to victory with nine overs and five wickets to spare, with Fooks undefeated on 29.
