CLANFIELD won by 144 runs at Gosport Borough’s 4th XI on Saturday in their penultimate league game of the season.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, but they were soon in trouble at 13 for two.

Mike Collins and Matt Bradley added 97 for the third wicket before Collins fell for 47.

Skipper Bradley reached his first league century of the year as he finished on 130 not out, and John Windebank added a useful 30 not out as Clanfield scored a formidable 238 for three off their allotted 40 overs.

Opening bowlers Nick Sawyer and Steve Graham (two for 12) set the tone for Clanfield, as the hosts slipped to 18 for two.

Andy Wellen (three for 18), Roy Goulding (three for 14) and Adam Smith (two for 15) made light work of Gosport’s batting line-up as the home side were bowled out for 94. Stuart Bogg top scored for Gosport with 37.

Clanfield hung on for a draw at Lavant on Sunday in a friendly timed game.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat. Lavant got off to a quick start as opener Danny Berkley smashed 58 before he was bowled by Toby Wehrle.

Harry Howell and Steve Brooker kept the score ticking along until Bob Wheeler took the wicket of Brooker, and Chris Buckle then had Howell caught on the boundary by Mike Collins for a measured 57.

Matt Bradley (three for 17) took three late wickets as Lavant finished on 191 for seven.

Clanfield openers Chris Wheeler (16) and John Windebank (12) put on 27 for the first wicket, but wickets then fell at regular intervals. Wehrle struck 34 off 24 balls, but when last man Roy Goulding joined Bradley at the crease Clanfield still had nine overs to survive.

Bradley and Goulding stood firm as Clanfield finished on 127 for nine to claim a draw.
