Hawkley v Vagabonds: HAWKLEY slipped to an 83-run defeat at home to the Vagabonds on Sunday afternoon.

Hawkley won the toss and invited the visitors to bat.

The Vagabonds batsmen started cautiously on a damp surface and had scored 30 runs in ten overs before Pringle took a good catch running in from long-on to remove Harding off the bowling of Charlton.

The Vagabonds added a further ten runs before Huntley caught Boote off the same bowler, following which Hutchins and Edwards dug in and added 65 runs before Hutchins was out on 49 when he offered a return catch to Galliford.

Hawkley skipper Brown ran out Kearney with a direct hit with the score on 116, which brought in the second Harding brother to join Edwards in a 90-run stand.

Harding hit ten fours and three sixes in a blistering innings of 63 before Brown bowled him.

The Vagabonds finished on an impressive 217-7 with Edwards undefeated on 53.

Hawkley’s hopes of matching their opponents’ score evaporated in the first ten overs as Perton removed the first three batsmen with only 25 runs scored.

Thereafter only Pringle offered real resistance until Charlton came to the crease at number eight and smacked five fours and a six on his way to posting Hawkley’s top score.

Charlton fell for 35 as Hawkley were bowled out for 134 to finish 84 runs short of their victory target.

Vagabonds bowler Perton finished with impressive figures of 5-25.
