CLANFIELD beat Hawkley by five wickets at South Lane Meadow on Sunday.

Clanfield captain Roy Goulding won the toss and elected to field first. Hawkley had the better of the early exchanges as Allison and Banbury hit six boundaries between them off opening bowlers Warren Murphy and Bob Wheeler.

Both batsmen fell in quick succession however as Ollie Sedgwick bowled Banbury for 19 and Roy Goulding ran out Allison with a direct hit.

Pringle hit five boundaries in his 33 before he was dismissed by Matt Bradley (two for 14).

Nick Troth made a vital 31 before Sedgwick returned to dismiss him, and Wheeler also picked up two late wickets, but a late cameo from Nick Hudson meant Hawkley finished on 162 for nine from their 40 overs.

Clanfield’s reply started well as John Windebank and Bradley added 20 runs for the first wicket in quick time before Windebank fell for nine.

Andy Foster looked assured until he hit his own wicket playing a cut shot. Bradley and Phil Weaver then added 96 for the third wicket, and Bradley reached his half-century with a six before Weaver was dismissed by Pringle for 24.

Jeremy Hobbs and Sedgwick also fell, but Bradley (104 not out) reached his century and hit the winning runs the ball after to secure Clanfield’s victory in the 34th over.
