Mayfield v Liphook & Ripsley: LIPHOOK and Ripsley have reached the National Village Cup at Lord’s after winning their semi final by 93 runs at Mayfield on Sunday.
Batting first on a good looking wicket, Liphook suffered a couple of early setbacks, losing Rob Nicklin and Harry Munt early on.
Opener Ryan Covey provide the backbone of the Liphook innings with a determined 68, while Suman Ganguly scored a rapid 25 before he was bowled.
George Neave hit six fours and a towering six on his way to 51, and Jonathan Pryce scored a well-worked 32 as Liphook were bowled out for 228 in the 40th over.
Opening bowler Ganguly (2-24) soon caused Mayfield to wobble, dismissing opening batsmen Harrison Tagg and James Chaplin.
A spell of tight bowling increased the required run rate for Mayfield. Toby Wallace (27) and skipper Rob Sharma (22) top scored as Covey (1-8) and Chaz Janczur (1-24) offered precious little to the batsmen.
George Neave (1-17) took a wicket and Sean Burton (4-32) and Dave Elliott (1-12) cleaned up the lower order as Mayfield were bowled out for 125 in the 32nd over.
Liphook’s will face North Yorkshire’s Folkton and Flixton Cricket Club in the final at Lord’s on September 16, after they beat Fillongly of Warwickshire by seven wickets in their semi final.
Liphook have won eight National Village Cup games in a row to reach Lord’s, defeating teams from Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Sussex, Somerset and Hampshire on their way to the final.
