Purbrook II v Hambledon II: HAMBLEDON’S second team slipped to a 41-run defeat at Purbrook’s second team in County Division 4 South of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.
The home side got off to a solid start as Alan Mengham (31) and James Barber (20) put on 52 for the first wicket.
Seb Duggan (2-32) made the breakthrough when he bowled Barber.
That was the first of three quick wickets for the visitors, as Wayne Norman (1-16) dismissed James Ilyes for five and Duggan dismissed Mengham to leave the hosts on 60-3.
George Hamson (65 not out) and Ian Limb (16) rebuilt the home side’s innings with a 34-run partnership, but Mark Le Clercq (1-34) made the breakthrough when he dismissed Limb.
Hambledon continued to take wickets as Chris Glanfield (1-15), Stu Sheppard (1-14) and William Parvin (1-31) dismissed James Cleave (seven), Jack Hamson (four) and Frank Leslie (one) respectively, but Hamson held Purbrook’s innings together as the home side finished on 159-7 at the end of their allotted 45 overs.
The away side’s reply got off to a disastrous start, as Hambledon crashed to 38-6.
Glanfield restored a degree of respectability with 47 not out, but Owain Chapman (18) and James Restell (14) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as the visitors were bowled out for 118 in the 44th over.
Leslie (3-27), Jordan Price (1-9), Limb (1-18), Nathan Snelling (3-24) and Alfie Potter (1-19) were the Purbrook wicket takers.
