A RECORD number of runs were scored in the match when Pink Maidens lost to East Meon in the final of the club’s six-a-side competition.
Batting first, the Maidens scored 73 runs in their five overs, with Paul Jays, Simon Kyte and David Greetham hitting out well to get a record score of 73.
This turned out to be not enough, and their joy was short lived when East Meon opening batsmen Jimmy and Olly Atkinson gave an extraordinary display of batting, scoring 58 runs in two overs. The Maidens came back and bowlers Greetham and Kyte restricted the remaining batsmen. East Meon needed nine runs to win off the last over, and they knocked off the runs to win the tournament.
The final was a superb way to finish a tremendous day of cricket for all the spectators. The Buriton team had kept the crowd amused during the day with their antics on and off the field.
