Frensham v Hawkley: HAWKLEY, playing a rare away fixture, visited Frensham where they won the toss and opted to field.

Hawkley captain Hallam Brown chose to open the attack with teenage pace-bowling cousins Rory Evans and Angus Rowan-Hamilton, and his choice was vindicated when Evans drew an edge in his first over, Brown himself taking a sharp catch at slip.

Both bowlers bowled with pace and hostility on a pitch offering lively bounce, and Frensham were reduced to 20-3 after the first ten overs.

A change of bowling saw a couple of half-chances squandered and this allowed Champneys and Frost to settle in and take advantage of the short boundary and fast outfield and the score was over 100 before Frost was caught behind off Brown.

A partnership developed between Baldock and Champneys and both batsmen reached half-centuries before Baldock skied the ball to Ashley Fooks off the bowling of Liam Lloyd. Frensham declared at tea with their score standing at 185-6.

Hawkley suffered an early setback when Ed Peel was caught behind off the second ball of the innings, but Ashley Fooks seized the initiative with a barrage of boundaries, reaching his half-century in only the ninth over.

Clive Hopkin played a patient innings, wearing down the bowling while his partner provided the fireworks. Fooks’ onslaught continued and he retired on completing a fine century. Four quick wickets fell before Hopkin was bowled for 30, leaving Viv Evans and Brown to knock off the remaining runs.
