Hawkley v XIIth Men: THE VISITORS batted first and lost their first wicket in the second over when Rory Evans made an acrobatic catch to dismiss Platter off the bowling of Kevin Kinge.

Scarborough and Anrag batted sensibly and the score had passed 50 before Scarborough cast caution to the wind and played an ugly swipe across the line to give Kinge his second wicket.

Shinn then joined Anrag in another profitable partnership which took the visitors to 93. Anrag was the dominant partner and completed his half-century before departing, well caught down the leg side by wicket keeper Clive Hopkin off the bowling of Nick Hudson.

Wickets then fell fairly regularly, with Hallam Brown and Liam Lloyd both claiming victims, but it was youngster Marcus Stuart-Bourne (4-22) who was the pick of Hawkley’s bowlers. The visitors’ last pair hung on until tea with the score on 144-9.

Hawkley’s reply began slowly, the first four overs passing without a run. Ashley Fooks then got into his stride, claiming 32 runs off the next three overs before Ripner struck back by bowling Chris Huntley.

Skipper Brown joined Fooks in the middle and Fooks reached his half-century before falling to a catch on the boundary with the score on 79. Barry Allison then kept Brown company in a 50-run stand.

A slight wobble saw both batsmen fall in successive overs. Evans was run out shortly afterwards, however, Hawkley were able to complete a comfortable victory with four wickets to spare.
