Waterlooville II v Froxfield: FROXFIELD overcame a batting wobble to pick up their third win on the spin away at Waterlooville’s second team in County Division 4 South of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.

Waterlooville won the toss and elected to bat first, but Froxfield’s new ball pairing of Ryan Carew and Toby Barnett bowled with good pace and beat the bat regularly without reward.

Barnett (1-21) finally made the breakthrough in the tenth over thanks to a smart low catch by Ashley Fooks.

Steve Singleton (3-17) bowled a double wicket maiden and added a third wicket in his final over as Froxfield took control.

Hallam Brown (2-18) came into the attack and bowled with good control, and fellow spinner Fooks (2-16) also picked up a couple of wickets before Paddy Cowell mopped up the tail with two wickets in two balls as Waterlooville were bowled out for 96.

Froxfield’s reply got off to a shaky start as Cowell fell for a duck when his powerfully-struck drive hit Fooks at the non-strikers end and bounced straight into the fielder’s hands.

Fooks soon followed with the score on 12, but Carew (22) tried to take the attack to the bowlers and played some good shots before he was caught on the boundary.

Brown and Jack Brailey then fell cheaply, and Froxfield were struggling on 52-5.

Skipper Jordan Hiscock joined Barnett (31 not out) at the crease and the pair batted patiently to take Froxfield past the required total and seal a five-wicket win.
