FROXFIELD Cricket Club held its first six-a-side tournament and family fun day in memory of Reg Barnett, who passed away last October.

Club members are raising funds to create a permanent memorial to a man who was involved in the club for over 60 years, starting at the age of 15 as a player. He went on to captain the side and held the post of club secretary.

The tournament was contested by eight teams. The Weasels (Liss) beat Broke Bat Mountain (Tichborne) in the final to take the trophy.

The Weasels batted first in the final and scored 73 off their five overs, with O Pearce retiring on 33. In reply Broke Bat Mountain made 59 off their five overs, with J. Reid having to retire on 34.

A variety of activities took place around the boundary, including a tombola, bottle stall, cakes sale, face painting, assault course and barbecue.

The event helped to raise £1,100 towards the memorial.
