GRAYSHOTT Cricket Club’s David Head has been awarded the Hampshire NatWest Outstanding Service to Cricket (OSCA) award for officials and umpires.

David started umpiring at Grayshott Cricket Club in the 1970s, standing in youth and Sunday fixtures. In 1989 David passed his umpire’s exam, which in those days was a two-and-a-half hour written assessment.

Once he passed his driving test in the early 1990s, David joined the I’Anson League umpires pool and still stands today, as well as supporting the club with youth fixtures whenever works permits.

David received his award from Grayshott Cricket Club youth manager Graham Sampson.

David has now been shortlisted for a national award and has been invited to Lord’s Cricket Ground for lunch with all the other county award winners next Monday (October 9).
