Ampfield v Froxfield: FROXFIELD overcame a nervy finish to pick up a tense win over Ampfield.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl on a green pitch. Steve Singleton (1-17) made an early breakthrough, and Froxfield restricted the home side to 45-1 from the first 18 overs.

Sam Barnett then took a wicket in his first over, and Josh Haslett claimed a wicket thanks to a sharp catch by Toby Barnett.

Two more quick wickets for S Barnett (3-14) and a run out by Steve Blohm left the score on 97-6 from 36 overs. Some late hitting got Ampfield up to 176, despite a wicket apiece for Jordan Hiscock and Steve Charles.

Froxfield’s reply got off to a shaky start as they lost skipper J Hiscock (0) and Ashley Fooks (14) early on. T Barnett (13) and Paddy Cowell added 56 runs together, and Cowell (62) was joined by Hallam Brown (23) for another useful partnership before both fell as Froxfield lost three wickets in quick succession.

K Hiscock and Haslett added 34 but two more quick wickets pegged back the visitors.

When Singleton was bowled Froxfield needed nine runs to win with one wicket left, and Haslett (40 not out) guided the visitors to victory.
