Hawkley v Medstead: MEDSTEAD won the toss and chose to field first.

Hawkley captain Ashley Fooks began in confident style with a succession of boundaries before offering a catch to deep mid-off. Fellow opener Clive Hopkin kept one end steady as Paul Cross followed his skipper’s example with a strong start followed by an early departure to leave Hawkley on 33-2.

Hawkley’s fragile middle order was again their undoing as five wickets fell for only 14 runs, with only Hopkin providing much resistance with a resolute display of defensive batting.

Tom Wallace salvaged something for Hawkley with three quick boundaries before Hopkin was the last wicket to fall. The hosts were all out for 65.

Medstead’s Hawkins was the stand out bowler with figures of 3-4.

Hawkley’s early demise meant that the visitors had six overs to face before the tea interval and Nick Hudson gave the home side a glimmer of hope by bowling both of Medstead’s openers.

However, on resuming after tea Medstead made no mistake in finishing the game, cruising to their victory target without further loss. Hawkins again stood out with an undefeated 43.
