Hawkley v Steep: HAWKLEY were asked to bat first, and opening batsman Clive Hopkin and Clive Shore made untroubled progress to put on 50 runs before Shore edged behind.

This started a flurry of wickets as Hawkley lost four batsmen for four runs. Skipper Ed Peel and Rory Evans steadied the ship, adding a further 40 runs before Peel fell to a skied catch.

Jordan Henderson then accompanied R Evans to take the score past 150, and R Evans reached his half-century before being run out. Hawkley’s tail added further valuable runs to take the total to 191-9 at tea.

Steep’s reply began brightly with Pickett targeting Nick Hudson’s bowling with a succession of boundaries which saw the visitors reach 50 in only the seventh over.

Hawkley struck back as Liam Lloyd took two quick wickets and Peel claimed two more to leave the visitors on 64-4.

McCubbin and Harrison rallied before Peel removed McCubbin, after which Steep disintegrated as Viv Evans and Henderson took two wickets apiece.

Hopkin claimed the final wicket as the visitors were bowled out for 119 to hand Hawkley a 72-run victory.
