Hawkley v Chichester All Stars: THE ALL Stars batted first in a light drizzle which slowly subsided as the innings progressed.
Trevis and Newman batted sensibly against a Hawkley attack led by father and son Viv and Seamus Evans. The score had reached 80 before Hawkley finally claimed their first wicket when Trevis pulled Hallam Brown’s off spin into the safe hands of S Evans at mid-wicket.
Hawkley made more inroads as Brown took a further wicket and Ed Peel claimed four victims. All Stars skipper Andrew Newman reached his half-century before falling to the bowling of Liam Lloyd and a late flourish took the visitors to 158-7.
Hawkley found the All Stars bowling hard to score against and wickets fell regularly. Paul Cross rallied the home side with a brisk 15, but it was not until Clive Hopkin joined Nick Hudson that the innings gained any real momentum and the score went past 100 before both batsman were dismissed.
S Evans joined Brown at the crease with 30 runs needed off the last five overs, and Brown hit a six and a four to leave three runs required from the last four balls. Hawkley fell just short though and lost by one run.
