Broadhalfpenny Brigands v Hawkley: HAWKLEY’S season concluded with a visit to Broadhalfpenny Down.

The hosts won the toss and invited Hawkley to bat on a pitch with uneven damp patches where overnight rain had run under the covers.

The visitors lost their first wicket in the third over with the score on 11, after which Henry Shore and Nick Hudson took the score to 45 before Hudson was run out.

After Shore was bowled for 25 skipper Hallam Brown hit a rapid 38 before losing his wicket to Trussler. Magan Singodia then marshalled the tail with 24 and Hawkley’s innings finished on 127.

The Brigands’ reply got off to a stuttering start when a smart bit of fielding by Kevin Hiscock ran out Trussler and Steven Singleton bowled Woolvine to leave the hosts on 6-2. Jay and Goodyear set about rebuilding and took the hosts’ score to 55 before Hudson bowled Goodyear.

John Marden then bowled Peach and ran out Osmond with a reflex throw after fielding off his own bowling.

Jay scored freely, passing his half-century, and the target seemed well within the Brigands’ reach while he remained at the crease.

Shore struck in his first over and Singleton returned to take another wicket to leave the game well poised.

Shore gained the vital breakthrough by bowling Jay for a fine 62 and Shore then bowled Bates in the penultimate over.

Singleton bowled the last over, claiming Harris leg before wicket with his second ball to end Hawkley’s season with a notable 17-run victory.
