Hawkley v Viv Evans XI: IN A highlight of their season, Hawkley each year play a team of past and present local cricketers led by Empshott farmer Viv Evans.

Hawkley batted first and got off to a shaky start, losing three quick wickets.

Paul Cross stood firm, however, and rebuilt the innings with support from Clive Hopkin. The pair took the score to 84 before Hopkin fell for 27.

Cross then reached his half-century before falling to the bowling of Parker.

The home side’s innings finished with a flourish as John Marden (37 not out) and Tom Wallace (16 not out) hit out in the closing overs to take Hawkley’s score to a competitive 163-9.

The Viv Evans team lost their eponymous captain early on, however Angus Rowan-Hamilton was in fine form and stroked ten fours and two sixes on his way to a score of 63.

Tom Thomas took three quick wickets, but Edmund Peel joined Rowan-Hamilton’s boundary-hitting spree and thereafter the result was never in doubt.

Peel reached his half-century with a final boundary as the Evans XI won by four wickets with ten overs to spare.
