Hawkley v Howzat: HAWKLEY returned to winning ways with a two-wicket win at home to Howzat on Sunday afternoon.

Hawkley won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first.

Two early wickets fell to the accurate bowling of Liam Lloyd before Hunt and Taylor built a solid partnership which took Howzat’s score up to 71.

A change of bowling then brought good results for Hawkley, with two wickets falling to Nick Hudson while at the other end Aaron Stewart removed another Howzat batsman.

Lamport and Dyal hit back for the visitors with a 50-run partnership before Hawkley skipper Hallam Brown broke through with a devastating three-over spell which took the remaining five wickets for 14 runs as Howzat finished on 161 all out.

In reply Hawkley lost three quick wickets and looked to be in trouble.

Brown and Lloyd then salvaged the innings with a well-paced 90-run partnership which took the home side to within 20 runs of their target.

Lloyd was bowled for 41 and Brown was the innocent victim of a needless run-out which left Hawkley scrabbling for runs as wickets continued to fall.

All results were possible as the final over started with Hawkley requiring three runs to win with two wickets remaining.

Fortunately for the home side, Tom Wallace and Angus Rowan-Hamilton kept their heads and three scrambled singles sealed the match for Hawkley.
