Stansted Park v Hawkley: HAWKLEY won the toss and chose to field on a scorching afternoon in the picturesque grounds of Stansted House.
The Stansted opening batsmen latched on to any loose balls and the score had reached 28 in the fifth over before Joy chopped a ball from Nick Hudson on to his stumps to give Hawkley their first wicket. This slowed the scoring rate and Hudson struck twice more to leave Stansted 37-3 after 11 overs.
Tom Wallace took a wicket at the other end, however this brought together Trafford and Joy senior, who crashed 107 runs in 12 overs to take the hosts to 172-4.
Hawkley skipper Ashley Fooks took two wickets in the closing overs and Hudson returned to the attack with a fourth wicket as Stansted finished on 185-7.
Ed Peel and Angus Watson opened Hawkley’s innings and Peel was quickly off the mark, hitting six boundaries before falling to the bowling of Cooper for 26.
Barry Allison steered Hawkley passed 100 before he fell for 32, and Liam Lloyd joined Fooks to add 30 runs before Fooks fell for 24.
Lloyd added 23 runs with Mark Hibberd before Lloyd fell for 29, and Hawkley needed 28 to win with five overs left with Hibberd and Hudson at the crease.
Eleven runs were needed off the last two overs, and six singles from the penultimate over left five runs required from the last over. The first four balls yielded three singles before Hudson drove the fifth ball to the mid-wicket boundary to see Hawkley home to a two-wicket victory with one ball to spare.
