Hawkley v Clanfield: CLANFIELD batted first and lost their first wicket in the second over when Pinnock drilled Cross to mid-on.
Hawkley’s catching was flawless and their ground fielding assured. Khan played some expansive leg-side shots but in attempting the same technique against Seamus Evans, he skied the ball for younger brother Rory Evans to take a well-judged back-peddling catch.
Evans speared an outswinger into Wheelers off-stump and it took some lower order resistance to lift the Clanfield score into three figures as they closed on 108 all out.
Seamus Evans finished with three wickets, Paul Cross and Nick Hudson claimed two victims and Rory Evans, Liam Lloyd and Hallam Brown got one wicket each.
Hawkley’s innings opened with Ashley Fooks displaying his trademark aggressive style. Chris Huntley played a patient role in the partnership as the total went past 50.
Huntley fell to a sharp stumping off the bowling of Wheeler and this sparked a collapse as five further wickets fell in the worsening rain.
However, Fooks hit three sixes and eight fours in his unbeaten 74 as Hawkley made 109-5.
