Liphook & Ripsley v Folkton & Flixton: LIPHOOK and Ripsley were beaten by Folkton and Flixton in the National Village Cup at Lord’s on Sunday.
Captain Charles Janczur won the toss and put Folkton and Flixton into bat.
Opening bowlers Suman Ganguly and Janczur bowled tightly and gave Liphook a perfect start when Janczur ripped Stuart Stocks’ middle stump out of the ground with the score on ten.
Janczur (2-19) also bowled Richard Malthouse to leave the Yorkshire side reeling.
George Neave struck when Tom Norman (19) chipped a delivery into the waiting hands of Rob Nicklin, and Will Norman was soon on his way back to the pavilion as he was spectacularly caught at gully by Ganguly, who held a rocket of a catch, diving away to his right. Folkton and Flixton were in trouble with the score on 59-4.
Matthew Nesfield joined Will Hutchinson at the crease and the pair started to rebuild the innings, but Ryan Covey and Neave didn’t give much away and runs were hard to come by.
Dave Elliott and Sean Burton took up the bowling for Liphook, but were quickly targeted by the two settled batsmen, who scored 33 from five overs.
Nesfield and Hutchinson (48) added 85 together before Neave (3-39) re-arranged Hutchinson’s stumps with a pacey delivery.
Nesfield continued the recovery before he was bowled by Ganguly for 60, and Folkton and Flixton were 174-6.
Ganguly (2-37) was to get a second wicket, trapping Harry Walmsley leg before wicket in the final over, but not before he had smashed 35 from 17 balls, taking Folkton and Flixton to a score of 198-8 off their 40 overs.
Liphook came out in a positive frame of mind, and opening batsmen Covey and Nicklin got Janczur’s side off to a flyer.
Liphook lost their first wicket with the score on 17, when Covey edged a delivery on nine and was caught by wicket keeper Marley Ward. Nicklin and Harry Munt continued the positive approach until Nicklin top-edged a shot to Malthouse at gully, and Liphook were on 39-2.
Munt was out leg before wicket for 19, and Neave top-edged his first delivery and was dismissed for a golden duck as 55-2 became 55-4.
Ganguly made a lively 16, but when he was out and Jonny Pryce soon followed for a duck, Liphook had collapsed to 77-6.
Grant Rouse and Ric Williams steadied things, but Rouse was caught at gully for 25 and Williams followed soon afterwards to leave Liphook reeling on 99-8.
Walmsley, who inflicted so much damage with the bat during Folkton and Flixton’s innings, came into the attack, removing Burton for four, and Janczur for an entertaining 14. Liphook had stumbled to a total of 126, and lost by 72 runs.
