LIPHOOK and Ripsley first team captain Charles Janczur is expecting big things from his team this season.

Last season was a mixed one for the team, with the high of reaching the National Village Cup final at Lord’s and the low of being relegated to Division 2 of the Southern Premier Cricket League.

And winning promotion back to Division 1 is the main priority for Janczur.

He said: “The key aim is promotion back to Division 1 and we have a squad that is more than capable. I would love to be celebrating a title win come September.

“We would also like to progress in the T20 Cup this year and try and make the Ageas Bowl final.”

While promotion is the main aim, Janczur admitted he would love to get Liphook back to Lord’s this year and go one better after losing by 72 runs against North Yorkshire’s Folkton and Flixton Cricket Club in the National Village Cup final last year.

He said: “Promotion is the main goal for the team but we are also very focussed on going as far as possible in the National Village Cup. We have a much tougher group this year with Hook and Newnham Basics and Sarisbury Athletic entering the Hampshire group, but we are confident we can beat anyone on our day.

“The cup run galvanised the club and village last year and we will be looking to do that this year.

“We still have a burning desire to overturn that final loss and go one better.”
