Liphook & Ripsley v Cookham Dean: LIPHOOK and Ripsley powered into the last 16 of the Cricketer Village Cup with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory against previously undefeated Thames Valley Division 1 leaders Cookham Dean at Ripsley Park on Sunday.
Electing to bat, the Berkshire qualifiers were blown away by a devastating spell by Suman Ganguly who struck in his second over, shattering the stumps of skipper Ben Millar.
After George Neave had Kuran Mangat caught behind, Ganguly then reduced Cookham to 20-4.
Although Greg Davis attempted to lead a recovery with a free hitting 65, wickets tumbled at the other end thanks to the ever reliable pair of Ryan Covey (3-17) and Sean Burton (2-36).
Cookham Dean’s resistance ended when Ganguly (4-20) returned to have Davis caught by Ric Williams in the 30th over, with the visitors’ total still on a modest 109.
The Ripsley Park side eased their way to their target, led by Covey (23) and the in-form Harry Munt (37 not out), who found time to launch two impressive sixes.
The home side finished with 110-3 in the only the 20th over.
Covey and Munt currently find themselves in the top ten of the competition’s batting averages as they look forward to a home game in the next round on July 8 against Oxford Downs, who are undefeated this year.
The victors will earn a place in the quarter final and be only two games from a Lord’s final.
