AWE Tadley v Liss

LISS ended their season with a defeat against AWE Tadley.

On a cloudy day Liss were put into bat. After an aggressive start Kemp was caught behind for 11. Gough was the next batsman to fall when he was caught for nine.

Pleace junior decided to open up and took 18 off a single over and went past his half-century. Liss were 103-4 but, with Pleace junior still in, a big score was on the cards.

Pearce and Pleace junior knocked the ball around well and Liss were approaching 150 with over ten overs left.

Pleace junior brought up his century and was caught for 102 to leave Liss 152-5.

Pearce reached his half-century and scored 70 not out as Liss finished on 227-7.

Liss made a good start with the ball and Cowell and Hedicker had the batsmen in trouble early on with the ball nipping everywhere.

AWE Tadley’s openers survived and patiently knocked the ball around, but as the drizzle began to fall Cowell dismissed both batsmen in quick succession.

The hosts realised the weather was coming in and went on the attack. Chances were created but the boundary was cleared regularly and the score increased rapidly.

The hosts were on target to chase the runs and went past 125 at the halfway stage.

Deller-Merricks went past his half-century in just 30 deliveries before being caught shortly afterwards. With wickets in hand, each new batsman swung hard.

Liss took a couple more wickets but it was not enough and, with over ten overs to go, the hosts went past the total with four wickets in hand.
