Portsmouth v Liphook & Ripsley: A GAME of varying fortunes saw Portsmouth emerge as worthy six-wicket winners against Liphook and Ripsley at St Helens on Saturday afternoon in Division 1 of the Southern Premier Cricket League.

Early honours went to Liphook with openers Ryan Covey (22) and Rob Nicklin (64) putting on 66 for the first wicket to get the visitors off to a positive start.

Thereafter Liphook suffered a telling collapse, losing seven batsmen for 42 runs as they slipped from 107-1 to 149-8.

Chief destroyers on a wicket favouring slow bowlers were Ethen Randall (3-50) and Andy Marston (3-15).

It was left to determined tailenders Jonny Pryce (31) and George Neave (32) to use the overs and push the score up to 220 all out.

An excellent undefeated 102 from Fraser Hay, which featured nine fours and four sixes, was the backbone of the Portsmouth innings.

Hay was well supported by James Christian (43) and Harry Collier (35 not out).

Hay and Collier were there at the finish, at 221-4, after a partnership of 114 in good time.
