Liphook & Ripsley v Tichborne Park: LIPHOOK and Ripsley reduced visitors Tichborne Park to 6-3 in only the fourth over to take control of their British Gas Southern Premier Cricket League Division 1 match at Ripsley Park.
The damage was done by opening bowler Ryan Covey who dismissed two of the top three, courtesy of his bowling partner Suman Ganguly who held two fine slip catches and had a catch behind for himself. Ryan’s brother, keeper Richard, went on to bag four catches as Tichborne slumped to 109 all out.
Only Prad Gunaratne caught the eye with 39 until he was caught by Richard Covey off Harry Munt.
Janczur also chipped in with two dismissals and Andy Barnes picked up his maiden Southern Premier League wickets with some accurate spin bowling to top off an excellent performance in the field.
After Mike Court removed openers Ryan Covey and Rob Nicklin cheaply, Liphook made heavy work of their reply, thanks largely to the impressive spin of Gunaratne (3-39) and some injudicious shot selection. With their opponents on 65-5, Tichborne’s spirits had definitely revived.
It was left to a partnership of 39 between the patient Gabe Broadhurst and the big hitting Harry Munt (28) to steer Liphook home at 110-6.
Liphook travel to Ventnor next Saturday as they look to carry on the momentum.
The first team also host Purbrook at home on Sunday in the first round of the Southern Premier League T20 Cup (4pm start).
