Petersfield Ladies v Ropley Ladies: PETERSFIELD Ladies closed a difficult opening weekend for the club with the best result of any of the senior sides.

Captain Jackson won the toss and decided to bat first.

The innings began with opening pair Brindley (24) and Anscombe (17) setting a fast pace before Brindley succumbed to a straight delivery from Clifford. Anscombe soon joined her opening partner in the hutch despite some sumptuous drives.

Whitaker was then joined by the star of the Petersfield innings, T Emery. The run rate increased again until Whitaker (12) became Clifford’s third victim.

Emma’s Hussey and Swiatek only managed to amass four runs between them, both falling victim to the Ropley captain.

With the score at 80-5, Emery was joined by captain Jackson. The pair enjoyed a partnership of 101, the captain providing some much needed glue to the innings despite only contributing seven to the partnership.

On Emery’s departure for a scintillating 76, new recruit Thomas (16 not out) joined her well set captain. The pair saw the innings out for a total of 232, Jackson (21 not out) having batted for 25 overs.

Petersfield opened up with H Clarke (0-9) and Whitaker (1-7), the latter taking the first wicket, removing Smith for 11. Thomas (3-7) replaced Clarke and ripped through the Ropley top order. She was ably assisted by R Emery (1-10). Captain Jackson (3-5) took up bowling duties and Anscombe (1-6) also took a wicket as Ropley were bowled out for 62.
