Petersfield Town 2 Verwood Town 1: PETERSFIELD Town progressed in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup under the lights with an entertaining victory against Verwood Town last Tuesday night.
Within five minutes the Rams took the lead.
Harry Bedford received a throw-in on the right hand side of the box and squared it to Marvin Orepo, who slotted the ball home.
Verwood soon had a chance to equalise when Jack Stuttard fed a ball through to Lee Vint, but his shot was pushed away by Rams keeper Matt Petts.
Verwood were back on level terms in the eighth minute. Jaydon Taylor sent an exquisite crossfield ball into the area to Ollie Davies, who sidefooted a volley into the back of the net.
Petersfield soon went back on the attack and put the Verwood defence under pressure. Will Essai’s floated corner was met by Harry Tremlett’s powerful header, but Isaac Haigh made a superb reaction save to his right to keep the scores level.
The Rams regained the lead midway through a busy first half when Essai got on the scoresheet. Tremlett picked up the ball on the right and clipped a cross into the area to the oncoming Essai, who placed his header beyond the diving keeper.
Chances were few and far between in a quiet second half, with Verwood finding it hard to break down Petersfield’s defence.
Orepo had the last chance of the game. Geddes took a long range free kick to Orepo, but his volley was parried away by Haigh.
