Hayling Island II v Petersfield II: PETERSFIELD’S second team travelled to Hayling Island’s second team looking for another win.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat.

On a pitch which showed variable bounce Petersfield got off to a good start, removing openers Alex Johnson (six) and Neil Wellington (eight) with the score on 28, both falling to Steve Gibson (2-16) caught behind.

James Swan (25) batted well and put away the poor balls alongside Anthony Walton (eight), before Walton was caught in the covers by Paul Clarke off Jack Butcher (2-36). Wickets fell at regular intervals and Clarke (2-12) removed Peter Rowson (15) and Steve Barber in successive balls with the score on 113.

Tom Mason (2-25) and James Stratford-Tuke (2-23) wrapped up the innings, but with extras totalling 45 the home side were bowled out for 130.

Petersfield’s reply got off to a very poor start with the top four being removed for only 19 runs, all getting out mistiming shots on the bouncy pitch.

James Longland (28) and Tom Stratford-Tuke (17) put on 52 for the fifth wicket but the lower order could not support young Longland as they all fell in a similar fashion to the top order.

Longland was still at the crease with 30 needed off the last ten overs, but a mix- up with Rob Allerston (five) meant both players ended up at the same end and Longland was run out.

Petersfield didn’t recover and were bowled out for 106 to lose by 24 runs.
