Liss v Hook & Newnham Basics III: LISS kept their push for promotion going on Saturday with a 56-run victory against Hook and Newnham Basics.

The hosts batted first and got off to a good start through openers Blanks and Pleace.

Liss quickly took the score to 50 in the first eight overs before a run out saw the end of Blanks (17) and a second wicket in the same over left the hosts 50-2. Kemp joined Pleace and the pair added 85 runs before Liss again lost two wickets in quick succession with Kemp (48) and Pleace (51) both falling.

Bolton added just four and Allcock 12 but Moore settled nicely and Liss went past the 200 mark. Moore was eventually dismissed for 44 and Liss finished on 230.

Blanks and Charles took the new ball and Blanks made the breakthrough in the seventh over, trapping Curd leg before wicket for nine. The visitors then reached 70 in the 11th over before Blanks picked up his second wicket. Opener Robson was still at the crease and found the boundary regularly before Charles’ persistence paid off, having him caught behind for 40.

The visitors were 90-4 and a change in the bowling brought Hedicker and Dillon-Thistleton into the attack.

Dillon-Thistleton struck in his first over and took his second, third and fourth wickets in consecutive overs to leave the visitors on 143-8.

Hedicker took the ninth wicket, but some big blows from the tail took the total onto 174 before Bolton picked up his first wicket for Liss and sealed another victory.
