Old Tauntonians & Romsey III v Liss: LISS got back on track with a good batting display against Old Tauntonians’ and Romsey’s third team on Saturday.

Winning the toss Liss batted first and openers Pleace and Austin looked to make a steady start. The opening partnership reached 112 before Austin was caught for 32.

Hannam joined Pleace at the crease and with 18 overs left the visitors went past 150. Pleace reached his century and Hannam was also in full swing but the 58-run partnership ended when Pleace was caught for 106.

Liss went past 200 with ten overs left, although wickets started to fall and Kemp (33) and Hannam (49) were both dismissed.

Some big blows from Blanks and Allcock meant Liss finished on 288-6.

Moore and Blanks took the new ball but the home side did not hang around and reached 33 from three overs.

Blanks made the breakthrough in the fourth over when he had Edwards caught for 13. This dismissal was quickly followed with a wicket for Moore and a second wicket for Blanks. With the score at 38-3 the home side continued to attack. Blanks took three more wickets to claim his five-for and finish with figures of 5-48.

Liss needed four more wickets and brought Dillon-Thistleton into the attack. This change was destructive, with three wickets falling in one over. At 108-9 Matty Evans tried his luck from the other end. It took just four deliveries for him to clean out the number 11 and the hosts were dismissed for 109.
