Hook & Newnham Basics IV v Petersfield II: PETERSFIELD’S second team fell to a six-wicket defeat at Hook and Newnham Basics’ fourth team in Regional Division 1 North East of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday afternoon.

Petersfield batted first and lost Dave Squires (seven) early on, and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. When James Stratford-Tuke fell for 12, the visitors were in trouble at 45-6. Jack Butcher (34) and Steve Gibson (31 not out) added 59 for the seventh wicket to rescue the innings, and Petersfield finished on 114-9 off 40 overs.

The visitors needed early wickets in the field, and Harvey Baker (3-25) and Gibson (1-14) delivered to leave Hook and Newnham Basics struggling on 22-4.

Tony Robson (38 not out) and James Balcombe (42 not out) knocked off the remaining 93 runs together though to give the home side the win.
