Compton & Chandler’s Ford II v Petersfield II: PETERSFIELD’S second team travelled to Chandler’s Ford missing their skipper and vice-skipper, and on an overcast day Jake Hastie and Dave Squires took on the captain’s duties between them.

The two captains decided to bat first on a dry pitch. Petersfield got off to a quick start before losing Hastie (12) as he dragged on with the score on 23. D Squires (five) followed three runs later.

Ash Spencer (53) and Andy Butcher (23) took the fight to the Chandler’s Ford attack before Butcher got a good delivery from Joe Murray (3-33) with the score on 58, and David Longland followed for eight. Fergus Evans and Spencer took the score to 125 before Spencer fell trying to push the score along.

Evans was dismissed for eight, and he was followed by Alex Squires (four) and Nathan Barlow (seven), but Jack Butcher (ten not out) and Dan May (two not out) took the score up to 152-8 off the allotted 45 overs.

The defence of the target started well as Barlow (2-33) and May (1-27) removed both openers and kept things tight to leave Chandler’s Ford on 63-3 from 17 overs. Jack Brennan (27) and Harry Pone (38) took the score on to 90 before D Squires bowled Brennan.

Martin Perry (15) was then bowled by J Butcher (1-28), who picked up his first senior wicket, and Nanda Baskar was trapped leg before wicket for a duck by Hastie (1-26) to leave Chandler’s Ford six wickets down. Pone took the hosts to 150 before giving a return catch to Spencer (1-1), but Rob Gasson hit a four to seal the win for the hosts.
