Steep v Liss: STEEP claimed the bragging rights as they won by eight wickets at home to Liss in County Division 3 North of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.
Steep won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first.
Pleace and T Austin started steadily for Liss but Steep made their first breakthrough when Pleace was well caught by Hegan off Kelson’s bowling.
Steep struck again soon afterwards as Smith trapped Moore leg before wicket.
Blanks joined T Austin at the crease and they began to move the scoreboard along, but Austin was then trapped leg before wicket by Bone having looked well set.
Blanks continued to be positive as partners started to come and go, before Mercer bowled Blanks for 58.
Mercer (4-41) and Bone (3-27) both finished with fine figures as Liss were bowled out for 157.
Blanks had Martin caught at slip early on in the Steep innings. This brought Knight to the crease to join Hegan and, similarly to the Liss innings, the pair started slowly but solidly.
Once the new ball bowlers were changed, scoring became easier, with Hegan pouncing on anything short.
Hegan soon reached his half-century and the second wicket did not fall until Steep only needed 18 to win when Knight was dismissed for 41.
Hegan and Bone quickly knocked off the remaining runs, finishing on 87 not out and 15 not out respectively.
A fine innings from Hegan had helped secure a maximum point win for Steep.
