Steep v Hawkley: STEEP won the toss and chose to bat on a hot day.

The Steep batsmen were quickly off the mark, but they suffered early setbacks when Kevin Kinge bowled Kiddle and then held a reflex caught-and-bowled chance to dismiss John Smith.

Sheamus Evans struck before Steep regrouped and took the score to 75. Hughes-Stanton then fell to the bowling of Ed Peel for 29. Adrian Hill and Josh Bird both looked set for a big score before Peel struck twice more.

Rory Evans replaced brother Sheamus and took a further wicket and then Steep’s captain, Jhon Cosgrove, launched a blitz on the Hawkley bowlers with a quickfire 21 before running out of partners as Nick Hudson took the last three Steep wickets.

Steep’s innings closed on 141 after only 32 overs.

Hawkley suffered an early blow when Hughes-Stanton bowled Jamie Prutton for a first ball duck. Viv Evans played a steady innings, however, both Barry Alison and Hawkley skipper Hallam Brown departed without reaching double figures.

V Evans fell to Pocock for a hard-earned 22 and after Steve Clark was caught behind for 20 Hawkley put up little resistance as their innings crumbled to 84 all out.
