Steep v Flamingo: STEEP continued their good season with a 76-run victory over Flamingo to cement sixth place in the County Division 3 North table.
The victory was due to a steady team performance with the bat, followed by a well-deserved five-wicket haul for Jack Campbell.
Steep were offered first use of the wicket and openers Dale Collins and Sean Noble showed their intent from the first over. Collins looked particularly fluent for his 29 which turned out to be the top score of the game. These two put on 70 runs before Collins perished looking to accelerate the score.
Noble (28) followed soon after but the Steep middle order failed to capitalise on the base they had set.
When Graham Hughes was out for 22, it was down to the lower order to set a decent target. Rich Atkins and James Kiddle took the attack to Flamingo, scoring 33 runs in a three over spell, and the final score was 186-8.
After tea, it was Campbell’s third over which set things in motion. Collins held a superb catch behind the stumps followed two balls later by the wicket of dangerman Heath.
Love (17) and Ames (24) rebuilt the innings but skipper John Smith ended the partnership with two wickets in consecutive overs – the second of which was thanks to a great catch from Atkins.
Campbell was brought back for his second spell and blew away the tail as Flamingo finished on 110-9.
He can consider himself unlucky to not be on a hat-trick next game, thanks to some inept slip fielding.
