Hawkley v Lavant: HAWKLEY batted first and made a slow start, scoring only 16 runs in the first nine overs for the loss of three wickets.
Hawkley skipper Hallam Brown joined opening batsman Aaron Stewart at the crease and the pair started to redress the balance. The next ten overs saw 80 runs scored as both batsmen laid into the Lavant bowling.
Stewart in particular showed judicious shot selection, mixing resolute defence with blistering pulls and cuts and he reached his half-century mostly in boundaries.
Brown also reached his half-century before falling for 64 runs having added 150 in partnership with Stewart.
A few Hawkley wickets fell cheaply before Rory Evans joined Stewart for a final spree which saw Stewart reach his century, which contained a six and 17 fours.
Stewart fell for 106 in the final overs, leaving R Evans undefeated on 26 as the innings closed on 236-7.
Lavant faced a tough run chase and their reply began cautiously, losing their first wicket in the seventh over to Jordan Hiscock and their second an over later to R Evans.
A further wicket fell after Steve Clarke’s acrobatic dive just failed to secure a one-handed catch but he parried the ball to Viv Evans who set up a smart run out.
Lavant clearly realised the target was now beyond them and clung on for the draw.
Hawkley rotated their bowlers to try to take the remaining wickets and seven Hawkley bowlers took a wicket apiece. However, Lavant survived until the close to finish on 149-8 with Brooker undefeated on 75.
