Holybourne v Petersfield II: PETERSFIELD’S second team travelled to Holybourne looking for their first win of the season.

Skipper Steve Gibson lost the toss on a green and bouncy pitch. Dave Squires and Frank Straw opened the batting and Straw (18) got the team off to a quick start with some fine shots before he chased a wide delivery and got a nick off the bottom of his bat through to the Holybourne keeper.

Squires (three) was next to go as he was trapped on the back foot to spinner Parker (1-24) with the score on 42. Chris Russell (40) was joined by Ben Anscombe (11) and both dealt with the Holybourne spin attack before Anscombe chopped a bouncy top spinner by Alec Hudson (2-16) to gully. Wickets fell at regular intervals after that with Mark Butcher (one) and Rob Allerston (four) going to leave Petersfield on 83-5.

Oscar Windebank (17) joined Russell in the middle and the pair put on 32. Jay Patel (2-30) removed Russell and Windebank as Petersfield finished on 129-7.

Holybourne took 14 off the first two overs before Harvey Baker (2-24) bowled Daniel Dudman (six) and got Tim Parker (eight) to edge behind to M Butcher. Paul Wakefield (15) and Patel (23) then put on 32 before Wakefield chipped Steve Gibson (1-14) to Straw at short cover.

Harry Cann (12) and Joe Cann (18) threatened to take the game away from Petersfield before they slumped from 93-4 to 109 all out. Straw’s spin (5-9) did most of the damage, but he was well supported by Russell (1-31) and Jack Butcher (1-9).
