Tilford made it two wins from two in Divison One of the I’Anson League by beating Chiddingfold by the wide margin of 160 runs at the Green on Saturday.
Having won the toss the home side elected to bat first on a green wicket, but made a bad start as captain George Ellis was well caught in the slips off his first ball. Tilford lost another early wicket when Ed Carlile fell with the score on 21. Alwyn Jordaan took both of the first two wickets. Tilford opener Andy Hall Hall found a useful ally in Mark Ramesar and together they repaired the innings in a stand of 122. Ramesar fell leg before wicket for 45 but Hall Hall put on another 51 for the fourth wicket thanks to a cameo from Matt Cook (20). Hall Hall increased the tempo, and having increased the tempo in reaching his century was finally bowled for a fine 101 off 122 balls which included 13 fours and a six. The total of 43 extras boosted the final total to 254 for nine off 45 overs with the left-armer Jordaan taking four for 44 off his nine overs.
The Chiddingfold innings started well with the openers putting on 23, but like Tilford’s opening game of the season against Frimley the introduction of the veteran Nigel Martyn caused a collapse. By the end of Martyn’s tight nine-over spell he had taken four for 12 to leave the visitors 64 for six by the end of 22 overs. Paul Ward top scored for Chiddingfold with 19, and although there was some late defiance in the order the visitors were bowled out for 94 in the 35th over with Huw Town-Jones and Carlile taking two wickets apiece.
Tilford trail Division One leaders Grayswood by just five points.
