THE DEADLINE for nominations for this year’s East Hampshire Sports Awards has been extended.

East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) has extended the deadline for nominations from January 31 to February 13 to make sure as much of East Hampshire’s sporting talent as possible is recognised and rewarded.

Nominees are assessed by a judging panel and winners are required to meet criteria specific for each category.

Finalists will be invited to the awards ceremony, which will be hosted by Olympic silver medallist Roger Black on March 14 at Old Thorns Hotel in Liphook.

Record-breaking female cricketer, and former captain of the England women’s team, Charlotte Edwards will be the guest of honour at this year’s ceremony and she will talk about her journey to the pinnacle of her sport.

Cllr Julie Butler, EHDC’s deputy leader and portfolio holder for welfare and communities, said: “It is fantastic that we could extend the deadline and give you the opportunity to get your nominations in and ensure every ounce of sporting talent is rewarded and recognised for their efforts.

“If you know of anyone from East Hampshire who has excelled in their sport over the past year then it is important you don’t miss this extended opportunity to nominate them for an East Hampshire Sports Award – absolutely anyone can put in a nomination, whether you’re a team-mate, friend, family member, coach or spectator.”
