BEDALES prep school Dunhurst is celebrating after they emerged as the double winners of a football tournament last Wednesday – just two weeks after their last tournament victory.
Dunhurst’s under-13 side – whose A team also won the Highfield Prep football tournament in September – took on 14 teams across the tournament to secure the win, with the school also playing host on this occasion.
Seven of the strongest teams competed in the A team tournament on Dunhurst’s pitches, while nine B teams – split into two groups – battled it out on Bedales’ Mem pitch.
Buoyed by their success at Highfield, Dunhurst’s A team got off to a strong start with a 4-1 win over Prebendal, followed by a 4-0 victory against Meoncross and a 5-0 win over Sherfield.
Box Hill were beaten 1-0, and Ditcham Park also proved to be a tough team to beat until Dunhurst broke through to win 2-0 in the second half.
Having won all five of their games, the A team was guaranteed the trophy before losing 2-1 against Boundary Oak in their last match of the tournament.
Dunhurst’s two B teams fared well on Bedales’ Mem pitch.
With a strong defence, team one let in just two goals throughout the entire tournament, finishing in third place and winning a play-off tie against Ditcham Park.
Team two also gave a solid performance, with wins over Prebendal and Boundary Oak and a draw against Ditcham Park leading them into the final against Great Ballard – which they won 1-0.
