ALTON and District Swimming Club took a strong team to this year’s annual Swim England South East Swimming Championships.

First to compete were the 15 and overs, with six Alton swimmers in action at Wycombe Leisure Centre.

In the oldest category (aged 17 and over), girls’ club captain Rebecca Alder finished in 12th place in the 200m backstroke.

Alton had three swimmers in the age-16 category. Joanna Clifford and boys’ club captain Ben Williams qualified for the 50m butterfly event, while Katherine was in action in the 50m backstroke event.

Mia Spencer and Hannah Williams competed in two events each in the age-15 category. Spencer improved her times in both the 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke, while Williams competed in the 50m butterfly and the 50m freestyle.

Alton’s under-14s competed at Crawley. On the first day Lottie Jackson swam a personal best in the 200m individual medley and won a silver medal in the 200m butterfly, while Thomas Duddridge took the bronze medal in the 100m freestyle. On the second day Katie Pengilley, Jackson and Duddridge swam in the 200 backstroke.

On the final weekend Duddridge was in action in the 200m medley and the 50m freestyle, while Jackson competed in the 50m backstroke and the 50m butterfly and George Dominy swam in the 50m breaststroke.

Duddridge then got himself in the medals, winning a silver medal in the 200m butterfly and a gold in the 100m butterfly.
