Havant Ladies IV 2 Petersfield Ladies II 7: SATURDAY was the first match after a long winter break for Petersfield Ladies’ second team.

The second team were hoping to see a repeat of their strong 11-0 win against Havant in September, and they started the match with a lot of power up front. Within minutes Broome had scored two goals and O’Kelly had scored one goal. Petersfield did not let this comfortable lead slow them down and kept pressing Havant to make mistakes in their D. Purkiss scored the next goal from midfielder Clare’s rebound. Broome completed her hat-trick with a perfectly-placed shot in the left corner, and Petersfield led 5-0 at half time.

O’Kelly and Purkiss both scored in the second half, although the wind and rain slowed the game down considerably. The slower pace suited Havant’s play and they were able to score two goals in quick succession while Petersfield were thinking of dry clothes and a hot cup of tea.

The win keeps Petersfield in third place in the league after being promoted last season. With only a few points between the top three, the fight for first place is still wide open.
