Petersfield under-14s 75 Farnborough under-14 B 0: PETERSFIELD’S under-14s were too strong for a Farnborough B side and ran out comfortable winners.

With 12 players unavailable the large under-14 squad still had 24 available to choose from. Although Farnborough tried admirably they were no match for the home team.

While Field dominated in every area they kept their discipline and maintained the structure required of their simple game plan. The forwards made ground and made the ball available quickly; which either resulted in another forward drive or it being released to the backs to exploit the width of the pitch. Strong running and quick recycling meant constant possession and the scoreboard kept ticking over.

A scrum against the head and a quick number eight pick-up allowed Keohane to open the scoring. The best score of the game came from Stewart, who was involved in the move multiple times. From quick line-out ball just outside Field’s 22 the forwards took the ball on and Stewart was able to recycle and gain more valuable yards. He then got himself back into the play two phases later and sprinted 40 metres to score. Centre Smith, making his debut, scored a hat-trick.

Despite making nine changes at half time the under-14s continued where they left off and Farnborough were not able to get themselves into the game. Owen came on at number eight and put in an impressive performance, and his hard running was rewarded with two scores.

The tries were scored by Smith (3), Keohane (2), Eyre (2), Owen (2), Stewart, Whitby, Russo and Davey.
