Alton under-12s 1 Petersfield under-12s 5: PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s under-12s got into their stride quickly at Alton.
The first period was characterised by some impressive passing, with Sebastian Gray keeping Alton’s forwards comfortably in check. Archie Maughan-Taylor and Noah Sykes worked effectively to drive the ball up the flanks, allowing Max White and Elliot White to make some penetrating runs into the offensive zone.
With Harry Stonebridge, James Hill and Edward Black dictating play in midfield it wasn’t long before Hill emerged from open play into the centre of the D to reverse thump home Petersfield’s first goal. Alton’s attacks were repeatedly blocked by Finlay Rushin, and the midfield supplied Solly Welch with a cheeky reverse tap in to make it 2-0.
Joe Price and Joel Lewis linked up seamlessly to drive the ball up to Max White, and Welch put Petersfield 3-0 up. Alton’s determined efforts were repaid with a goal to make it 3-1, but Elliot White pushed the ball into a gap and Welch drove home another Petersfield goal.
Will Nichols didn’t have the busiest day in the Petersfield goal, but when required his sure feet saved repeated strikes in open play and from short corners. Welch then drilled home the final goal to give Petersfield a 5-1 win.
